Australia qualify for Champions Trophy final

Australia defeated England by nine wickets at SuperSport Park Friday to qualify for the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand or Pakistan.

Australia Ricky Ponting became the third batsman to pass the 12,000-run mark in one-day internationals when he hit a boundary in the Champions Trophy semi-final against England Friday.

Sachin Tendulkar of India (16,903 runs) is the highest scorer in the 50-over format of the game followed by 40-year-old Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka (13,377).

Tasmania-born Ponting passed the magical mark by pulling Graham Onions to deep square and was unbeaten on 81 as Australia reached 165-1 after 32 overs chasing an England total of 257 off 47.4 overs.
